Emphasizing that technology community needs to take a pro-active role in keeping the planet green and resilient, Technopark conducted a tree-planting drive on its campus to mark the World Environment Day celebrations today.
The programme, which saw planting of saplings on the sprawling campus, was organized in association with Moto Tourers and Biking Community Federation (MotoFed)
Being a significant occasion of World Environment Day, Col Sanjeev Nair (Retd), CEO, Technopark, stressed upon the need for supporting initiatives that would create a sustainable planet for ourselves and future generations to come. Col Sanjeev Nair (Retd) also highlighted the importance of planting more trees to keep our planet safe and secure. He added that Technopark signifies a perfect synergy between ecology and technology and this drive of planting of more saplings in the park further accentuates our commitment to a cleaner and sustainable environment.
He lauded MotoFed for mobilizing the riders for the tree-planting initiative. Motorcycle clubs from the capital city, including XBHP Kerala, Royal Riders Kerala, Dauntless Royal Explorers, The Royals, Spinning Travellers and Indrian Royal Cruisers actively took part in the programme.
The theme of World Environment Day 2024 is ‘Land Restoration, Stopping Desertification and Building Drought Resilience.’
Technopark, the first IT Park in the country, has set an example since its inception through a host of eco-friendly projects in its green campus adhering to ESG norms, through initiatives like Miyawaki forest plantation, butterfly garden, swan pond, rain water harvesting, sewage treatment plant, solar-powered EV charging station and maintaining a green campus.
MotoFed, an NGO was founded in 2022 by two passionate bikers -- Lt Col Oommen T Jacob (Retd) and Mr Ashish Singh, a social entrepreneur. The organisation focuses on various social aspects like road Safety, environment protection, women empowerment, anti-drug campaigns andunity of the country. Every year, MotoFed conducts ‘Save Earth Ride,’ a world-wide ride by bikers, where they plant and protect trees.
Mr Abhilash DS, Manager, Admin & IR, Technopark and Mr Sreekumar V, GTECH Secretary and Centre Head, TATA Elxsi; were also present at the event which also saw overwhelming participation of Technopark and IT employees.
